And as the stars fell as Pearl Crescents, they turned to butterflies of gold,
With freighted wings of pink aster, and anchored specs dwelling; Lo!---
They fell and fluttered in his lashes, then slid down to make-up brown gold,
With a sorrow-pale dole in his eyes of ashes, fro the moonlight and stars mold;
And the moonlight shone like a nimbus, as the radiant Gloria of his wig-
With a newt wrapped 'round his crown, coyly skinned for colorful mauve jewel pegs
"Lo," it harked-it weened to him, "listen to me and follow, I beg!"
His footsteps led, and tread softly, on desert sands they bleed, under a moon so bright---
"Where do you take me, serpent?"-- "To the endless deserts of recluse, I might!"
And he feasted on the night and rich air, dancing on dour hills of sands
As a seraph flew and leered at the serpent with wings that created strong winds;
Sand spat in his eyes and poison at his skin, "fowl tenant!" it hissed and fled
The serpent wept and stayed hidden, "I'm sorry for you, I have sinned!"
He opened his eyes to a moonlit sky, lain upon his bare back
The serpent was gone, and now he lay naked, to find and make his way back
