Growing up, there were two restaurants that my family and I would go to: a pho restaurant five minutes away and Hometown Buffet. Really special occasions would call for this Chinese restaurant eight minutes away. (Srsly.) Yeah, we'd go on vacations, but I was really comfortable with the small, small world my mother had made for me.
Then my friends started driving, and call me naive, but sheesh the world was a helluva bigger. No, I'm totally serious. I was surprised. Like "LOOK AT THE POSSIBILTIES!!!!!!!" surprised. There's something about driving, or maybe just growing up, that expands the world so much futher than I'd ever pictured it'd be. |
