Damsel in Distress

The crown you wear must hurt you,
so heavy with all that greed,
festooned with jewels and lavished
with riches not found in the sea.
I can't imagine how you can do it
despite your blue blood and all.
I thought the burden would crush you,
all that gold to break your fall.
My superficial prince, the bearer
of treasures other maidens so crave,
and I your unlucky princess,
who under your pressure will stave.
How can you uphold such shame?
What prince is all face and no soul?
And me, to stand by dead statue;
Yes, no heart but a gaping hole!
My master--such a fraud is he
to bear scepter and crown.
What a waste of mind and life:
A life only gorged with renown;
But lo! Evil pride bred from nothing!
Monster! I am wed to a ghoul!
To bear a crown to feign and lie:
Prince of Fibs; Princess of Fools!
