I was but a teen when I left home,
When I shed the cocoon and left to roam,
And on the Path of Life that I chose,
I had my share of joys and woes.
I learned how to laugh; I learned how to love,
I learned how to cry when I’d had enough,
But through it all I learned to stride,
To ride the waves of Life’s Tide.
I’ve made mistakes and learned a lot
But life is a game and I’ll take my shot.

Well I played that game for twenty years,
Climbed mountains of hope and swum oceans of tears.
I’ve loved and lost and loved again,
Faced the Dragons of Life with each Beast slain,
Fought the Demons of loneliness and despair
But I rose to the fight and drove the Beast to His Lair.
Now, at last, my wounds are healed,
Spring has blossomed in my Life’s Field.
I’ve mourned my losses, I’ve paid my dues,
Now I’m back on Life’s road and I’m wearing new shoes.

As I break forth into the future ahead,
I begin to feel hope replacing the dread
For waiting by a fork in the path just beyond,
Is a girl with gorgeous blue eyes and hair so blonde.
My eyes are enthralled by her beauty divine,
She melts my heart, turns water to wine.
But although her lips are quick with a smile,
I can sense the burden she’s carried awhile.
So now here we are at the fork in Life’s Road,
The past is behind us, the future untold.

Open your heart and your soul to me, Girl,
My heartbeat is pounding, my head is awhirl.
I’m ready to love, yearning to feel,
I know that through joy, old wounds we can heal.
So walk with me, My Love, upon Life’s quest,
Lean on my shoulder, lay your head on my chest.
I won’t walk in front, I won’t walk behind,
Keep stride beside me, in soul and in mind.
I won’t put you down, or cast you adrift,
I’ll stay right beside you, and mountains we’ll shift.
