basic html, can somebody teach me about html.... Options

first and foremost, im a med student not a computer student, so please bear with me ... eneweiz, i want to learn all the basics of html... i know what the scripts are *i have all the list already* now, my problem is editing / changing the styles *that's what i call it* the html.. for example:::

if the code is <div id="bheibi"> it will be #bheibi *right? and <div class="sweet" it will be .sweet right? but, what if the codes are:

and
