Image mapping/backgrounds, possible interpretation error |

I think I may be trying to play soccer in a baseball field. That being said, here is my problem. If I wish to make a background for my blog site, so that the entire page is one picture and I post, etc on top of that picture, is that called image mapping? Or is that just a background? And what is the difference in examples please? Thanks.
