This year, Time Magazine has chosen President Bush as "Person of the Year."
Do you feel he deserves that title? Why or why not? Their articles about him pose an excellent argument, but I still would like to hear your opinions. I personally am appalled, but that's just me. Sorry about the big mess-up on the name. it was supposed to be president, not 'persident.' Dang, I've edited this post 4 times in a row! |

Bush is a fine president. Of course he's not perfect, have we EVER had a perfect president? just because you're president doesnt mean you are suddenly ... perfect! You seem to be forgetting that half of AMERICA voted for Bush...he's not a dictator.
And about the war.... Iraq is a way better place than it was before (At least 182,000 Kurds in Iraq were murdered or are missing and presumed dead. Authorities on Iraq estimate that 1.3 million people have died as a direct result of Saddam Hussein’s acts of terror since 1979, the year he bullied his way into office.) You'll also find that most of our troops are not sitting in Iraq grousing....they need us to support them, not diss the cause they're giving their lives for. |

You'll also find that most of our troops are not sitting in Iraq grousing....they need us to support them, not diss the cause they're giving their lives for. yeah...no president is perfect...but bush can't even admit that he was WRONG about assuming there were weapons of mass destruction in iraq. if u cant face the truth and realize that what's good for our country is more important than your ego...or finishing what your father started...then you'll be a good candidate for president. half of america voted for bush...yeah that's because people in the south / mid-west were the people that mostly backed him up. they believe in war solving all the problems in the world. maybe if they actually knew anything about anything, then they would've changed their minds. a lot of people support people because " oh well he's from my hometown " or " he's from my state "...which is completely irrelevent and stupid. and yes, iraq IS a better place now. yes...we DID capture saddam hussein [yay for bush and his father ... u finally finished what you started ] and yet they still have yet to capture OSAMA BIN LADEN [ let me remind you, that he was the one that ATTACKED US ON 9/11. ] wasnt that the main reason y we went into the mid east in the first place? i must also inform you that half of the americans believe that saddam hussein was the one that attacked us on 9/11. thank the government and administration for that....but they DONT tell us half of the things that are REALLY going on in iraq. i remember someone posting the pictures of the soldiers "that nobody ever sees". its funny because those are only a few instances where the soldiers were sensitive and not heartless. most of them enjoy killing people because all iraqis are "bad people". do u truly believe that the soldiers in iraq are just killing the "bad guy terrorists" and coming home after a job well done? uh, NO! civilians..women and innocent children are being killed everyday for no reason. and about the whole iraq government. yeah, i ahve some issues with that too. we shouldnt be enforcing our way of democratic republic government on these people. who are we to say that our government is superior over the rest? WE DON'T OWN THEIR COUNTRY. Bush IS a dictator...and people think "hoo ha for bush, hes killin the terrorists in the middle east". yeah thats happening...but they don't show u the disgusting and horrible things that they do wen nobody's watching. oh, and im also guessing that all of you are rich upper-class americans that are thrilled that your parents got a tax cut while the middle/lower class citizens didnt ![]() |

What is wrong with believing that war can solve certain problems? I say "certain" because I have to degeneralized how you said "all". Do you think non-violence can solve "all" problems then? What made you assume that all who voted for him do not know anything? Where do you get your news, may I ask? I get it from CNN, British news, French news, Vietnamese news and the internet. I do not think that not knowing "anything about anything" describes me, yet I still believe he is qualified. Though I do not agree with him on many things, I do not believe anyone else could've done a better job. QUOTE i must also inform you that half of the americans believe that saddam hussein was the one that attacked us on 9/11. thank the government and administration for that....but they DONT tell us half of the things that are REALLY going on in iraq. i remember someone posting the pictures of the soldiers "that nobody ever sees". its funny because those are only a few instances where the soldiers were sensitive and not heartless. most of them enjoy killing people because all iraqis are "bad people". do u truly believe that the soldiers in iraq are just killing the "bad guy terrorists" and coming home after a job well done? uh, NO! civilians..women and innocent children are being killed everyday for no reason. Which "half" believe that Saddam Hussein is the one responsible for 9/11? The half that didn't care to vote? The half that don't usually follow the news because of their busy lives? The half that don't care about anything except making money? The government may not tell all that goes on, but is it the government responsibility to tell the truth about all things or is it the responsibility of the individual who wants to learn of the truth to search for it? You believe that soldiers enjoy killing because they believe that all Iraquis are bad. Is it just me or are you not only stereotyping and generalizing? So if your brother or cousin enlisted in the military they will automatically think that all Iraqis are bad? Oh yea, soldiers love point the guns at innocent women and children then blowing their heads off. ![]() QUOTE and about the whole iraq government. yeah, i ahve some issues with that too. we shouldnt be enforcing our way of democratic republic government on these people. who are we to say that our government is superior over the rest? I completely agree with you that America should not coerce other governments into converting, so to speak, into a democracy. And that is where I do not support what Bush is planning. But you know, Presidents before Bush have tried as well. QUOTE and ... what i said was that supporting someone because of his background or where he lives is STUPID. I never said that people in the south or mid-west were STUPID, mind you. If I don't say so myself, I think you're the one that is assuming that I'm sterotyping southerners as unintelligent...even though that's not what I said or believe. Actually, not only are you saying that the majority of America is stupid, you might also be describing your neighbors, friends, teachers... etc. People generally vote for those who are most like them, whether it be the same ideals or the same hometown. QUOTE Btw...have you ever seen fareignheit [sp?] 9/11? Well, if you haven't, then I reccommend that you watch the movie. It shows all of the abusive acts that many of the U.S. soldiers do to the Iraqi people. It also shows some interviews with soldiers as they barge into small towns and kill people without any clue that most of them are civilians. You can hear them laughing and saying "Die, die!" They don't show you that on CNN, do they? and you said that NO soldier is there to kill people. Easy for you to speak as if you are there. Not EVERY soldier is there for the right reasons you know. if they're not there to kill people, then what are they doing in Iraq? Picking flowers? Oh...I must be mistaken, they are searchign for the weapons of mass destruction yet to be discovered. Not EVERY soldier is there for the right reasons but the MAJORITY of them are. Is Farenheight 9/11 your source of information? You know, years ago there was a picture taken during the Vietnam War that depicted a Nationalist Vietnamese soldier pointing a gun at Communist soldier's head. The photographer who took the picture won the Pulitzer. For a long time Americans and people all over the world based their opinions on the Vietnam War by looking at a picture they saw and condemned Vietnamese who were fighting for their freedom and honor because they believed that a picture is worth a thousand words... Well, years later, the photographer, who received world wide recognition for the piece, apologized to the Nationalist soldier for ruining his life and for not knowing the story that his picture told. What the photographer didn't know then was that the Communist soldier belonged to a special unit and had raped countless women, murdered men and children and was in the process of burning down a whole village and killing soldiers who were trying to save the village before he was caught and held at gun point for execution. The point is, everything we see in the media is biased and there is a story behind every scene shown in CNN, FOX, or any other news that we see, even "documentaries". We cannot based our whole belief system on what one man has to say about "truths". QUOTE Bush claims "no draft"...when new fathers with families are required to serve in the army. In the movie, they showed U.S. military soldiers wandering in the poorest areas of the country...using propaganda to pursuade low-class young men to go to Iraq. Even when they said that htey werent interested, they would still try to persuade them and even had the nerve to follow them saying " you don't have anything planned for your future, so why not? " " Wouldn't you like to serve this country to make somethign of yourself? " " Die with honor..knowing that you did your best to defend America " Hmmm....draft? close to one? You tell me. Christians constantly come up to me on campus and coming to my door step to talk to me about God, but that doesn't mean I will be swayed to convert. I believe that each man, woman has his/her own choices to make. When recruits come to your door step offering you money for your education if you wish to pursue it later and a way to feed your family, you still have a choice to enlist or not to enlist. The difference between draft and propaganda is that you STILL have choice with the former. |
