The big question! You don't even have to see the movie to answer this, just know this Phantom killed for Christine all Raoul did was beat the shit out of people to get 411 on the Phantom!

... dude, I hate how everyone knows POTO because of the movie now. stubborn.gif The movie sucked. And it's not so much about how hot some guy was. It's about character.

In Christine's place, I would've pitied the Phantom to some degree and probably gone with Raoul. But as a spectator, I adore the Phantom. Mrawr.

I don't think the movie sucked, I don't think you can compare a stage version of POTO to a movie version of POTO. Of course they are going to be different, you simply can't capture the same essence on a screen as you can on stage. When you see it on stage Phantom actually holds out all of the note in Music of the Night... and no electrical guitars interrupt the music during Phantom of the Opera. But, it gives you someone elses view of it. Besides, I don't think the movie was butchered, Andrew Lloyd Webber produced it, he had a whole bunch of say in it.

Do you honestly think Mr. Webber would have let Phantom of the Opera the movie come out if he thought it sucked?

To end this, you simply can't compare stage and screen, even though they both involve acting the two are extremely different medias. I've done acting on stage for over half my life and I have been an extra on film. The two are don extremely differently.
