political cartoons are an outlet for satire and the opinions of the cartoonist... they can cause things like this:
in the 'gilded age' of american history, the mid-late 1800s, 'Boss' Tweed had all kinds of (negative) influence over politics inside of NYC's Tammany Hall. A cartoonist Thomas Nast, i think, drew a cartoon of him that pointed out his corruption and was printed everywhere. People got angry and indicted him, so he fled to France. A porter @ the French hotel recognized tweed from the cartoon, contacted authorities and he went to prison! i think there's more to that story. oh well... google it LoL |
