this has just been gnawing on my mind for a couple days.
a few days ago, i passed by a couple of people talking about how much they LOVED green day... however, when i asked if they knew about green day before their American Idiot song, they all said no. Most didnt even know that they had been around for many years before... so, as a question to all Green Day fans, especially those who LOVE green day, how many of u knew/cared for the band 5 years ago? how many actually listened to dookie? not meant as an insult to anyone |

QUOTE I don't understand why people have to prove that they're 'loyal fans' just cause they've been listening to to them for years, bashing on new fans. I understand if it's a group of stupid little girls that cant distinguish oen band member from another running around with notebooks scribbled with 'I LOVE BILLY JOE FROM GREENDAY', meanwhile they're spelling billie joe and green day wrong. That pisses me off as well. But honestly, what's so bad about someone who heard a single on the radio, liked it, bought it and love it? Isn't that what a musicians job is in the first place? Trying to write songs that people can enjoy and get into? It's hypocritical because I doubt all of you guys starting listening to them when they FIRST got together during the mid eighties. Everyone is the noobie at one point or another, and if new people are getting into Green Day now, or any other band for that matter, I say good for them. I hope I'm noo coming off as mean or anything... Maybe I'm just bitter, but I was talking to my friend the other day and she was pissed off because this girl just started listening to her favorite band, and it bothered her that someone else knew about them. Wtf is up with that? This thread always comes up in a forum, no matter what kind of music you listen to, and it never ceases to amaze me about how possesive some people are towards something that isn't even theirs. There's nothing loyal about that. Wow... long ass post... O_O. Yeah, but those are the people that make them popular. The trend whores that follow everything because it's on MTV or it's on the radio. They don't truly appreciate the music - they do it because everyone else is. They're fed what the media provides them. To not even know that it's Green Day and Billie Joe makes me mad. It makes the true fans mad. That's why. |
