Do you believe that people often living in poor areas are mostly likely to commit a crime all the time? In history class, my teacher said no and i totally agree. Crimes can happen anywhere in the US. it dosent always have to be a poor area like the ghetto and stuff..it dosent matter..what do you guys think? I think of this really confusing too

this also requires some knoledge of human physcology.
On stealing: humans naturally have a tendency that some of them like risks and some don't... if humans never took risks we'd still be in the tree (evolution, but if you don't belive, america would have never revolted and no US would be formed.) however; if every human took risks we'd all die out. so; people get an adrenaline rush when they steal. it's a risk. you might get caught. some people enjoy the rush; some don't. those that do will are more likely to steal for fun. there are also those who cannot afford certain things, like say a cool shirt. their want of the item will overpower thier fear of the risk, and they will try to steal it. however; if sucessful it reduces the percived risk. now how this applies: adrenaline junkies can get thier adrenaline rush many ways. skydiving, rock climbing. extreme sports. however; extreme sports cost a pretty penny to participate in, whereas shoplifting costs nothing and you get something. therefore; if we assume the amount of adrenaline junkies in rich and poor people is the same (%) then we can say that rich adrenaline junkies are more likely to turn to extreme sports than poor people. thus leaving the poor with a higher percent of probablitly to shoplift. On the second: it's a bit obvious that people who steal (the first time) because they can't afford something are not rich. if you want to factor in the peer pressure you'd have to look at sociology. crimes like murder and rape also work like this a bit; if you're rich you can pay a hit man. heck, if you're poor you can too. 500 bucks or so. |
