See for my own safety, i never really open the door to anyone when i am home alone. But when my mom is here, she open the door to any knock, and as a result, we get a bunch of commercial people asking us to donate and stuff. i mean, we are both nice people, and my mother's continuation of failing to not open the door to strangers leads us to a lot of "moral obligations". I mean, i am really tired of people trying to get us to donate when i myself is poor and need people to donate ME some money so i can get myself some cozy christmas presents. when people are on the phone or at the door telling my mom to donate, she calls me over and try to clean up the mess she is in. You would think that i can just shut the door or hang up the phone in these people's faces, but it's pretty hard. How do you deal with these telemarketers and strangers who asks you for donation to african/tsunami/flood/avalanche/cancer/leukemia sufferers?

.... Are you selfish? I mean, I, myself, am poor, but I don't go around complaining about it and expect other people to feel sorry for me. When I can, I do consider donating or helping fundraise. I don't have a giant walk-in wardrobe with 500 items of clothing, but my mom asks me every few months if I have any old clothes that I don't need and could donate to the salvation army or any other donation foundations. Most of the time, I go looking through my closet and drawers for clothing to donate.
And twice, there were kids that showed up to my door and asked if I would like to buy a candy bar. I did buy one Because i know that in some way, I'm helping someone other there. And I believe in karma, that if I do good things, good things might happen to me. But even if good things might not happen to me in the future, at least I'll know that I did a few good deeds in my life. And somewhere in the world, there are children who are able to stay warm during the winter and/or have clothing to wear.

I never open the door to those kids cause around here, kids go to places like Costco and BJ WholeSale Club and buy boxes of candy and sell them high priced saying that it's for charity when the money is for them. They also take the candy drive order books (where you have a book that has a bunch of things for sale, the people order it and five you the money up front, you give the order form to your school, then you get the stuff and have to deliver it to the people.) have people order and then keep the money and never hand in the forms. How do I know kids do this, cause my friend and groups of his friends used to do that.
