how do i change the sizes of the table cells that the entry dates and left module titles (i.e. subcriptions, my blogrings, etc.) are in? is there also a way to put background pictures in them? i have some css scripts to modify the fonts and whatnot, but i can't change the size of the box, so i'll leave it open.

the css scripts you have, just add width and height between the {}'s. Also add background-image:url(PICTUREURL); between too
