We recently got two new BDs (last year)...they're pretty good. Our head BD (we have three) actually went to our school. Yeah, our school is that old. She was drum major at our school and at our senior high. She played clarinet. So yeah, we have good BDs.
We have around 400 band people total (9-12), because there're 200 in my 9-10 school. Performing arts has a lot of respect...mainly because a lot of people know about it. In 6th grade, everyone has to take either choir, band, or orchestra. So anyone who wants to ditch performing arts takes choir (don't need to buy an instrument), and then they do whatever they want. In the end, everyone ends up with a taste, though. But, yeah...there're all kinds of people in our band. We're a close group when we're together, but we have our own little groups, too. That helps the band gain a lot of respect--everyone knows at least one band person. This has almost turned into a band topic, rather than a colorguard topic. Hee.
