Because it's CS, you need to go for ATI cards, HL runs better on ATI though Nvidia is overall better and much better in Open GL Games. Because the ATi X850 XT Platinum edition isn't out yet, you'd have to get the X800 XT Platinum Edition which has a sticker price of around $600, and I'm not sure whether they have an AGP version so you'll need to check that your computer's motherboard has a PCIe slot and if your comp is from before July then it won't have a PCIe slot.

To rephrase, the Nvidia top of the line cards are better overall. The new 6 series of Nvidia crushes the ATI cards that are in the same price bracket.
