How To Clean Your KeyBoard
You should do this maybe every 2-3 months (well that's how often I do mine anyway!) You will need: Cotton buds/Q-tips Toothbrush that you won't use Knife (it doesn't have to be sharp) A soft cloth/duster Some sort of weak cleaning solution If you like you could put all this stuff together in a shoebox or something as a kit you can use every time. It's probably a good idea to cut your cloth up into small squares. 1. Switch off, or unplug your keyboard. 2. Lift up keys using the knife as a lever. Remember to place them on a flat surface in the correct order, preferably in a place where they won't get knocked easily. Don't take out too many keys at a time or you might not remember where they go. This is easier to do than it sounds! If you do get keys messed up, look at another keyboard or find a pic of keyboard in a magazine or something. *Important: Be VERY careful with the spacebar as it has two springs underneath and if you lose them your spacebar won't work. If you lose one, it's possible to cut the other spring in half and use it, but make sure the spring is long enough in the first place. 3. Clean the place where the key was with q-tips and the toothbrush till all/most of the dirt has gone. Then wipe over with a piece of the cloth. 4. Clean the key with cloth slightly dampened in the cleaning solution. Clean out the underneath of the key with the toothbrush. 5. Replace key firmly in it's correct place. 6. If you clean your keyboard properly, it should take about an hour to do. After you've replaced all the keys, give the edges and front a wipe over with the cloth and a little cleaning solution till all the dirt is removed. Then clean with a dry cloth. |
