man i'm so bummed. i'm not the smartest person in the world, so when i heard that starting next school year the grading system is going to change. no longer will a "D" be a passing grade. did your school agree to the same thing?
so next school year all schools in hawaii will be going through the same thing. i'm not to sure about other U.S. schools, but if hawaii is the only state being affected by thing. i'm going to freakin move!!! |

QUOTE(Sumiaki @ Dec 11 2004, 3:38 AM) Yea... C is the new "D". It's soo bad to get a C now. Even though it's equal to "average". B is the new average even though it says "above average". A is supposed to be "excellent" but now its the new above average. Then when you add honors grades to that... it sucks. The traditional grading scale goes up by like 4%. But for a B you get an A credit for GPA and a A you get a 5 based on a 4.0 GPA. For a C... you just get C credit for your GPA. lol. Not true here in california. California Cal state and UC standards go like this Regulars/CP Percentile / Our School letter grade Standard GPA 98 - 100 / A+ 4.00 93 - 97 / A 4.00 90 - 92 / A- 3.67 87-89 / B+ 3.33 83-86 / B 3.00 80 - 82 / B- 2.67 77 - 79 / C+ 2.33 73 - 76 / C 2.00 70 - 72 / C- 1.67 69 / D+ 1.00 66 - 68 / D 1.00 65 / D- 1.00 0 - 65 / F 0 Honors Level & A.P. Classes Percentile / Our School letter grade Standard GPA 98 - 100 / A+ 5.00 93 - 97 / A 5.00 90 - 92 / A- 4.67 87-89 / B+ 4.33 83-86 / B 4.00 80 - 82 / B- 3.67 77 - 79 / C+ 3.33 73 - 76 / C 3.00 70 - 72 / C- 1.67 69 / D+ 1.00 66 - 68 / D 1.00 65 / D- 1.00 0 - 65 / F 0 Notice how after a C the gpa does not get extra 1 pt... so u need atleast a C to get the 1 point.... Now one other thing. You might have honors but it does not mean UC will weight it. Some Private colleges will weight it if its honors but UC u have to check if its considered an Honors course. But all AP are weighted. ie. I took Alg I honors, English II honors, Geometry Honors, and Bio Honors for 9th and 10th grade. I checked our school's course list on the UC website and all those honors do NOT give extra 1pt to the GPA. ![]() ![]() Oh and to Spiritedfreak Your in the sixth grade! Like yes its good to strive to do your hardest in school because your foundation in elementary will reflect on your success in High School. So Since your doing more advanced math than your used to it will serve you when you head to high school and your advanced than the rest of them because your school took the initiative to advance ur math program. Heres where ull see the diffrence. It's better to learn it in 6th grade and get a C/D. Because by the time you hit your freshman year, chances are you can choose to do an even advanced math subject or keep to the regular math schedule your class would take and since uve alrdy seen it in elementary it should be nothing but Easy. And keep in mind, grades in 6th-8th grade really mean nothing except how your doing. Unless you plan on going to a strict private school which checks your grades then having a C average will even do just keep that in mind. Its not like college will look back to your prior to HS grades anyway. But then again when High School comes, especially 10th and 11th grade.... Then grades really matter. And chances are if you didnt make a good foundation in elementary then you sure aint gonna make it in hs. Unless ur those few people who dont do well at first or are just average then outta no-where start taking AP/honors and Acing them. I have friends like that! |
