Girl asking for a guy's opinion, answer please. Options

I try to put this as simply as possible.

I sort of liked this guy. He was hot but not the brightest... sort of obliviously to his surrounding or so it seemed. I didn't really want to date him cause I figured he'd make a crappy boyfriend.

My friend Jes knew I liked this guy and told his best friend. Jes and the guy's friend are good friends. So this guy's friend tells Jes he'll find out who my crush likes for me as a favor to her. He calls the guy I like and tells Jes about it. So Jes tells me that my crush said he thinks I'm cool and stuff but doesn't really want a girlfriend- especially before Christmas because he's cheap. He wasn't even supposed to know I liked him at all. Jes says, according to my crush's friend he already knew I liked him. That didn't make sense but that's besides the point.

Ok the point of this... Are all guys like this? Are you cheap like this guy and avoid relationships so you don't have to spend money? Do you think it was an excuse? Do you think my crush's friend just screwed me and lied about it... I mean this guy doesn't really like me anyway...

That guy doesn't have much going for him, ok so he's hott, but he's not that bright, he's cheap, and his excuse for not wanting to date you is because he doesn't want to spend money on you for christmas?

It's ok to have a crush on him, but going for a relationship based on looks is a bad idea. But maybe he is a really great guy, and in that case you might want to get to know him.
