after this years election, many kids at my school (and many users of these forums) have said "THAT'S IT, I'M MOVING TO CANADA!" Why? Is your relocation going to some how affect the other 270 million people who live in the US? I'm going to quote the APB
QUOTE(Angry Patriotic B**t**d (edited)) A few thoughts on the election... An observation that I touched on breifly above but have never understood, why do Liberals always bluff like they are going to move to Canada when they don't get their way? What the fsck is that? I mean, first off, no, no you aren't going to move to Canada. You are going to stay here in the U.S., uncomfortably close to me and continue to whine indefinitely. Because that is what you would rather do. You would rather be miserable here than be happy in Canada (if such a thing is possible). And why Canada? If I decided that I were through with the U.S., I think I would be able to find a slightly more attractive new home than Canada. Bermuda, Cyprus, the Virgin Islands... It doesn't take a genius to look at a globe and come up with better options than Canada--a cold, empty place denizened by American impostors with bad hair, acid washed jeans and slightly strange accents. Honestly, how many of the people who say they will move to Canada will actually move? Frankly, I could care less if they moved. America can do without them. |

QUOTE(stephinika @ Nov 6 2004, 3:24 PM) hmm yeah i've heard of people saying that and some may move, some may not. whatever. but what's wrong with canada? its unnecessary to put down canada in the process of debating this...canada does have its problems but so does the states. I agree. Even though people are saying they're going to move to Canada as a joke, it doesn't mean Canada shouldn't be taken seriously. What you all have in your minds is a poor stereotype of what Canada is, which is an absolute no when it comes to debating (after all, this IS the Debate section). Canada has many riches. If Canada was swiped off this very planet, nothing much would happen, I agree. But to a certain degree yes, things would change. We needn't go to the extent of putting certain groups of people down without adequate reasons. All I've been hearing so far is "Canada has moose". "Canada is cold". "Canada is useless." Not that I don't agree with some of those statements, but for the first two, what does it have to do with this topic? And for the third statement, what kind of proof do you have? Because Canada, albeit quite small and inferior in your minds, does in fact have some rich resources in which the whole world can benefit from. If you want to make a stereotypical joke about Canadians, say it in the Humour section. This is the Debate section, where logic and reason prevail. When Americans say they want to move to Canada, it could mean they just want to move in general. They may use Canada as a country that's described as quite small and inferior, to show their discontent. They hate America and Bush's tactics so much they would stoop to the level of Canada. This is not a matter of what people want to do to change America and its 270 million people, this is an attempt for those people to live a more peaceful life. And believe me, Canada will give you that peace America will never have. |
