Did any of you guys see SNL last night when Ashlee Simpson performed? I wanted to but I missed it. My mom heard on the radio today that on SNL Ashlee was lip syncing (dunno if i spelled that right) and her vocals that were on the tape and her band didnt match up, so everything was out of sync and she got mad and stormed off the stage.

Ashlee Simpson Ashlee Simpson hit a little snag during her Saturday Night Live performance this weekend. When the junior miss and her live band started into her second song of the night, the upcoming single "Autobiography," a pre-recorded vocal track from "Pieces Of Me" (which she had already performed earlier in the show) began to play. Simpson's mic was nowhere near her mouth at the time of the blunder. While only a few seconds of the wrong vocal track was heard, it clearly freaked the teenage singer, who went on to do a little dance (though hard to describe, the country-bumpkin dance would be familiar to anyone who remembers that freaky DJ kid on Roseanne). Following a few seconds of The Simpson Shuffle, Ashlee sheepishly walked offstage, leaving her band members the uncomfortable task of continuing to play the song (and smothering their laughter) until SNL cut to commercial. Now, to fight off the oncoming wave of Milli Vanilli comparisons, we'd like to point out that this was Simpson's own voice viewers were hearing, just pre-recorded. An anonymous SNL insider told Associated Press that "guide vocals" are common to concerts and the show - with the singer either lip-synching completely, or singing overtop of the track to strengthen the performance. Simpson's earlier "Pieces Of Me" performance had featured a noticeably on-cue vocal take, reminiscent of the live shows of her fellow pop tart Britney Spears, who sings note-perfect while bounding around the stage and wrapping herself in large snakes. So cheating on the vocals seems pretty standard in the pop music world, but what may get Simpson some more deserved criticism was how she chose not to 'fess up, instead blaming the mistake on her band. Standing next to host Jude Law at the end of the show, Simpson said, "I feel so bad. My band started playing the wrong song." She also explained her crazy-dance, saying, "I didn't know what to do so I thought I'd do a hoe-down." Geffen Records, Simpson's label, threw the blame-ball even farther away from the singer, chalking it up to a computer glitch that accidentally played the "Pieces Of Me" intro instead of some pre-taped electronic percussion. That doesn't really explain why the vocal track was on the computer in the first place, but whatever. According to her official website, Simpson is set to perform at the Radio Music Awards in Las Vegas, tonight. Simpson has also posted an explanation on her site, claiming that she was exhausted and had to use the vocal track to get through the show. She also apologized to her band for dissing them on national TV. -David McDougall If you dn't believe me go ; http://entertainment.sympatico.msn.ca/Musi...btitle=&abc=abc |
