Alright, I seriously need to say something about this racism in my town. Tell me what you think:
Ok, my town is like, 90% white people. The town I used to live in like, 7 years ago was more white. It was more like 99.9% of whites. And they would always be like "ching chong chang" and me and my brother didn't exactly "fit in" cause we were chinese. So we moved to another town where probably 85% were asian. It was good but then we moved to this shit town. Ok, I hate the fact that they always ask me "can u speak chinese?". I mean, that's like asking if you can speak another language, i don't see what's so cool about it. If u wanna know how to speak it, get off your lazy ass and learn. In 7th grade, there was this one kid, Devin. And he would be all "asians drive bad" and " asians are short ". Stereotypical stuff. And all this other shit. So one day I go online and see this girl (one of those people you would call popular and preppy and all they care about is there makeup, you know) and her profile would be all " omg im scared to go to the nail salons again cause the stupid chinks would probably break my nail or something". Ok, first of all, chinks, that word is like saying "nigga". I mean, you can say the word to other people of your own race but if you say that and you're not that, don't say it, it's offending. And second of all, it's more vietnamese people who own nail salons. So this girl, she goes and gets xanga. Xanga is probably like 95% asian. And that is stupid because first she's talking about chinks and then she joins something where the community is 95% asian. Okay? So, 8th grade, Devin has gotten over the whole asian thing (kinda) and I have to sit with 5 other people in spanish and they act racist EVERY DAY. Asking questions like "are u part of the asian invasion?" or "i should use these eyes, they look like chinese eyes" and then does that fag thing where you make it look like an effing alien. And all these other shit. I mean, you might think racism has stopped, but it seriously is going on everywhere. What are your opinions? |

QUOTE([2) Nekked,Oct 20 2004, 7:50 AM] i think she meant that the majority of xanga is asian, and she just threw out a random percentage. and she didnt say if you werent asian, it wouldnt be right for you to join xanga. what she meant was that girl obviously has problems with asian people - and it seems peculiar that she joins a community that consists of a lot of asian people. and i dont think she said she was only comfortable with people of her own ethnicity. but that town was probably the only school she went to that the majority of the student body wasnt caucasion. i used to goto the highschool in the current town she lives in, and the actual percentage of caucasion students is 72%. there are some african american people (But theyre go there on scholarship. they all actually live in the city) There's probably like... 15 asian kids in the entire student body. and so what if shes more comfortable with people of her own culture? i am too. i think you're all reading into this too deeply. Yeah, I know that she was trying to point out that Xanga is a largely asian-based community. But why even bring that up? I don't think that it's necessary to use that loosely based statistic to strengthen her argument. You can't attack that girl based on the fact that she joined a 'large asian community' while being racist to them. "Haha, omigod, what an idiot, this dumb bitch hates chinks, but she has a Xanga." Really, I think that's a weak argument. QUOTE So this girl, she goes and gets xanga. Xanga is probably like 95% asian. And that is stupid Tell me that there isn't a hint of closed-mindedness in that statement. Tell me how strong and credible that argument is, while standing the ground of trying to promote open-mindedness, racial equality and the elimination of ignorance through racism. |
