Actually, Elba, your 'bullshit' interpretation of the first part was the same as mine.
Something along the lines of...learning how to cherish each day and making each day matter more by carefully taking better note of them. By 'numbering' them, we heighten the significance of each passing day in our eyes. I don't know about your explanation for the second part though... I believe the second part is just as it is...once we learn to number our days, we will have a greater deal of wisdom in our hearts. I dunno, I'm too sick and lazy to try.  BTW, you guys are just too hilarious.
