QUOTE(MasteRxKiD @ Oct 9 2004, 3:15 AM) The word's meaning has changed over the years, that they're able to use it openly. I think it's more of the issue of which context the word was used in. Some use it to make it have the same meaning as 'brother', or in some cases, it's original origin - to label someone ignorant. When black people now use the word nigger, I'm sure they have no intent of disrespecting their ancestors. If that's how you see it, I don't think it should be your problem...yes, it's their history...if they choose not to respect it, then fine. Hey, it could be that the African Amercian community accepted that it was the past and has forgiven the ones who opressed their people. That they wouldn't hold grudges and know that the use of the word in these times is completely distant from it's significance in the past. Let's say that some people haven't let go of the fact their people was opressed by the founders of this country. Don't you think that hatred and bitter filled emotions towards white people would just be repeating history, repeating the ignorance, and keeping that chain of discrimination going? Of course, if the word...any word discriminating a race is used in the same manner as it was back then (Calling a black person a nigger, a vietnamese person gook, a mexican person a spic, etc etc), then yes, it is disrespectful and unacceptable. But if it's used in this manner, which is very common: "Yo, w'sup mah nigga, wut's crack-a-lackin'?" Then I believe it's acceptable, and has nothing to do with degrading the people who were oppressed and discrimated in the past. All I'm trying to say is the words meaning has changed. you totally misunderstood what she said. she means the meaning of the word shouldnt have changed to anything that was in any way humorous or "cool." thats what's so disrespectful. theres history behind that word. to change it is just wrong.. the words being used too lightly.. even if you dont mean anything by it, its just ridiculous. have some respect for the people that worked so hard so that our generation wouldnt HAVE to suffer from oppression. QUOTE just to let you guys know and i dont know if this has been said or not but here goes . negro means black in spanish nigger means the slurr that white people used during the slavery times nigga means the slang that people use today hence the slang that mc's use and finally since i started this im gonna end it right now !!!!! ITS OK TO USE THE "N" WORD !!!!!! do you know why ?!!!! because if you can make a joke about some other race or even laugh at a racial joke then that means someone now has the right to say something about you ! DURR for example if i were to make a joke about filipinos(which i am) and some black person were to laugh at it . . . then i can now make a joke about a black person becuase that black person just now laughed at the filipino race so yeah sorry to brake it to you guys . . . hmmm and yeah that ^^ example isnt meant to be read in a angry type of way OK ! its meant to inform you people about todays changing days WE STILL ACT LIKE WERE IN THE F*CKING 40's and 50's .. .. .. people wake up and see that color doesnt mean sh*t !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! who said it was okay to call anyone cr*ckers, or any other racial slurr? being black doesnt make any difference from being asian or hispanic. racial slurrs shouldnt be used at all. in any context. and just because todays society has changed so much that people THINK its "okay" to use these words, doesnt mean that its right. it just shows you how stupid and narrowminded our generation is. |
