There were several of you who suggessed this alternative to women who were raped or do not want to conceive a child in the "abortion" thread.
Of course, I'm going to make a statement that the pill isn't that great of an alternative (just to keep us entertained). Yes, its effectiveness as a contraception is almost a sure deal if it is taken as prescribed. However there is one major complication: The morning-after pill could be viewed as a women's way to safeguard her from getting an unwanted pregnancy, however, it does not, in any way, safeguard her from becoming infected with HIV and other STDs. Many women are dependent on birth control pills without considering their chances of being infected either with HIV or STDs. Calling the pill "emergency contraception" isn't going to deter most women from using it just as they use any other birth control pills. So anyway, this is NOT meant to be a pro-choice/pro-life discussion, but strictly your opinions on the morning-after pill. |

QUOTE(Dark Saga @ Sep 21 2004, 2:59 PM) Your argument isn't valid.. because this pill does not, will not, prevent STD's. If you want to argue something, argue about the girls who don't know what they are doing. Your whole argument, is based on this pill not preventing STD's. Why state the obvious? This just gets funnier by the post. It seems you can't put two and two together, and you're getting offended with me saying your intimate partner might be dependent on the pill. By no means, am I directing any of this at you, but rather at those who DO depend on the pill. If you and your partner do not, then why bother with what I'm saying? ![]() Now then, let's make my point easier to understand, hmm? I said that the pill doesn't prevent STDs, this is an obvious thing, however, there are those who are oblivious or even forgetful to this fact. It may be obvious to you, Mr Genius, but not to every other person. If we all have the common sense that you and your partner possess, then there wouldn't be need of of my point. That means, we're not debating on how irresponsible my friends or I may be (which is totally irrelevant), but on how some young people depends on the pill, not knowing the effects of it. I hope you understand that now. QUOTE The morning after pill and other birth control methods are great inventions. If one is too ignorant to acknowledge the fact that STDs cannot be prevented with birth control, Then that person shouldn't be having sex. I agree that it is a great invention, however, only when it is used for the purpose that it was created. Wouldn't this be nice if the world were full of educated people? However there are kids who have sex and using the pill as protection. You heard me, they use the pill for protection. I know this is ignorance, but this is what ignorant people think about the pill. |
