Your Words, Never Mine

"I'll love you always and forever,
Until the unescapable end of time,
I'll keep you safe and close to me."
Those were your words, never mine.

"My heart will belong to you,
Completely, all-knowingly, always."
It's not like I told you,
But your hands always held mine.

"I'll rescue you from hell,
Making all of your demons pay.
I'll save you from the pain,
That steals your sanity away."

You claimed these words so many times,
Until they began to suffocate me.
I'd repeat your lies so many times,
Lost inside my own mind.

You would write me love letters,
While I sat by you in class.
"Yours always," they were signed,
Those were your words, never mine.

And I'm starting to regret that day,
February fourteenth, seems so long ago.
It was Valentine's Day,
The day I gave my heart away.

Now, I thought that we would make it,
That things would end so great.
But then I started to realize,
That your love had gone so far, so fast.

Still, your words were all I cried for,
Your voice so kind and keen on me.
And even though I knew it wasn't true,
I convinced myself that you were mine.

"There's something I have to tell you,
I hate to leave you with this line,
But true love never lasts."
Those were your words, never mine.
