problem with my guyfriend, how can i make him happy? Options

Ok. John is the name of my guyfriend. We've been friends since the beginning of last year, which is when I started liking him. Throughout all of last year, he considered us as good friends, so I did too. He would talk to me on the bus (he's in a grade higher than me), IM me as soon as I got on AIM, but all that changed this year.

This summer, he went back to his birthplace and got a girlfriend. He told us she was sooo cute, pretty, fun and the whole package. Then when he came back to America, he no longer IMed me, then a few days later, they broke up. I think he was pretty depressed for a while.

It was his birthday on the 31st. So I decided to buy him a present. I ended up spending twenty dollars, which is, alot in my opinion, since I am only in Middle School and have no jobs.
When i told him about the present, he said he was too embarrassed to receive any presents. I understood, because, well, he is a guy, and guys think strangely.. lol.

But then on the day of his birthday, I overheard that Helen, another one of his friends, gave him a teddy bear and he accepted it, this other girl, Jenny, gave him a book she made, and he accepted it too.
Well, of course, I got pretty mad when I heard about this; I was thinking, "Why did he accept their gifts and not mine?"

I IMed him on AIM, told him about what I found out, here's part of the actual convo I had with him.

Do you think it was kind of mean of me to not forgive him? Usually, I'm a pretty nice person, I dont like making people feel bad.

The next day, after waiting for him to IM me for about two hours, I finally IMed him and he was being all grouchy like i don kar wat u think or ok..wtv or i will be in depression if i dun get out of this schoo or if ur confused.. then how do u think i feel?
I think it was maybe he showed more feelings than he wanted to at the previous convo I had with him.
I had a few words with him as he was getting off the bus, he didnt look at me when I talked.

This is really bugging me, comments? Ideas on how I can get him to be my friend again? I dont really care for the crush I have for him, I just want him to be happy, and he obviously is not right now.

I don't really know what to say to it...If he was really "sorry", wouldn't he like...want the gift again or something? *shrugs* Ack. I hate guys like that. I would go up to him and knee him. >.<

He might still be sad about his girlfriend and maybe he knows you're trying to move in??? *shrugs* I don't really know, but just give him some time. Until he doesnt get so much depressed and hopefully, things would work out...G'luck.
