QUOTE(uninspiredfae @ Aug 14 2004, 6:13 PM) If you mean in skills, then it is impossible to measure equality. Each person has his/her own qualities that the others may lack; one man may be better than one woman, but another woman may be better than the man. Society wise, it is also hard to determine equality. As Mr. Acid mentioned earlier, there is no drafting women (yet) and we certainly do not have equal pay. Some men may respect women, but others will look down on women. Some men may respect a FEW women, but look down on the rest of the population.... etc. I conclude that equality among the sexes is too hard to determine... which is almost the same as no conclusion/not saying anything at all. There's so much sexism in the world, and I think that it's very obvious that it still is in favor of men. In Africa, there are tribes where girls as young as 13 are auctioned off as wives by their fathers. In America, women are widely thought of as housekeepers and cooks. Parents teach their children to think of women as weak and fragile. How many times do you hear young boys making ignorant sexist remarks? True, there are some careers that are in favor of women. Like INTERIOR DECORATING. *cough* But it's just highly unlikely that women and men will be "equal" anytime soon. |
