positioning/alignment Options

I'm trying to position my boxed xanga. I'm using this :
<DIV class="boxed" align="center" valign="middle">

and I added this to my stylesheet:
div.boxed
{overflow: auto;
width: 560px;
height: 385px;
background-color: #ffffff;
background-image: url(PLACE URL HERE);
background-position: bottom left;
background-attachment: fixed;
background-repeat: no-repeat;}

...I've tried to change the alignment but nothing happens, am i doing something wrong?

i'm not trying to make a skin, i'm just trying to position my boxed xanga. btw,I read the tutorial and tried the boxed xanga script that was given, I can only adjust the width and height. the left & top margin doesn't work.
