dunno if ppl are still arguing over this, but here's some proof over the fact that flips are asian.
First off, the dictionary definition of Pacific Islander courtesy of Dictionary.com Pacific Islander n. 1. A native or inhabitant of any of the Polynesian, Micronesian, or Melanesian islands of Oceania. 2. A person of Polynesian, Micronesian, or Melanesian descent. See Usage Note at Asian. Now if one is intelligent enough to look up that usage note at Asian then one would see this: Usage Note: Asia is the largest of the continents with more than half the world's population. Though strictly speaking all of its inhabitants are Asians, in practice this term is applied almost exclusively to the peoples of East, Southeast, and South Asia as opposed to those of Southwest Asiasuch as Arabs, Turks, Iranians, and Kurdswho are more usually designated Middle or Near Easterners. Indonesians and Filipinos are properly termed Asian, since their island groups are considered part of the Asian continent, but not the Melanesians, Micronesians, and Polynesians of the central and southern Pacific, who are now often referred to collectively as Pacific Islanders. So you Filipino people are Asians and be proud of it. If you want to be a Pacific Islander, fine by me, but then you simply making yourselves seem not as smart. Last time I looked at a map, Phillipines was apart of ASIA. People who are apart of Asia are ASIANS. Even the people from the Middle East (though they prefer Middle Easterns due to religious reasons). So if you want to be geographically retarded, then be Pacific Islanders; it makes the us Chinese and Japanese people look smarter since it shows we know how to read a map. Why do you want to be known as Pacific Islanders anyway? Relgious reason? Wanna be affililiated with Hawaii? To distance yourself from your Asian roots? As my last piece of evidence, I recently looked at a poll being held in the back of a Viz comic book (those people that print mangas in English) and when they ask for your Ethnicity, one of the choices was Asian/Pacific Islander. This in itself shows that the terms are interchangable and mean, basically, the same thing. If they were all that different, then they would be two different choices. So if you excuse me, I'm going to keep calling all you Filipino people Asians. ok, i have no damn life whatsoever, but there ya go. |
