I was eating lunch with my dad, talking about music, talking about how pop stars are considerably more popular than musicians and bands in their day, but that fame does not last. Then we got to talking about how The Beatles, Queen, and others changed music and he asked me who I thought was changing music today.
Who do y'all think's changing music today? Granted, it'll most likely be someone involved in more mainstream stuff due to the fact that it is mainstream and popularity drives a lot of cultural and societal changes. I think certain DJs and electronic artists who are somewhat building a bridge between their music and pop music are creating some of the more significant changes in music. For instance, Tiesto, David Guetta, and Deadmau5 are becoming increasingly more popular in mainstream, the first two working with a lot of hip hop artists and pop artists. Deadmau5 was just at the VMAs. MGMT I also think is somewhat introducing a new type of music to the general public. |

like you said, a lot of underground electronic artists are becoming mainstream. even artists like Justice and MSTRKRFT, Boys Noize and the like. it's a lot easier to find underground music now than it was even 10 years ago, and I think that's made a big difference in society.
