California's Proposition 8, which introduced an amendment to the CA constitution that forbid gays and lesbians from marrying, was overturned by the CA State Supreme Court on the grounds that it is unconstitutional. (The case is being appealed to the 9th Circuit.)

If the case does reach the U.S. Supreme Court, things should prove really interesting if Elena Kagan tips the Court's liberal balance.
