Ah, cool, another one of these discussions.
First of all, if you want to create a better CB, just go create it. The number of active members on the forums can be counted on fingers and toes, so getting a critical mass of members to shift to a new forum wouldn't be that hard (probably). The number of talented, active designers can be counted on fingers and toes, too (and greatly overlaps with forum members) so posting an announcement and getting designers to move wouldn't be hard, either, especially if your new website is good. I've said it before and I'll say it again: if someone wants to finance a new site, I'd help build/design the site for freebies (hell, maybe I'd even chip in for hosting or whatever, might be a fun project). And I'm not some bum off the street, I'm a f*cking pro web developer man, I get paid thou$and$ of dollar$ a year, so I could bust this out in a couple weekends (and hopefully do it with fewer comma splices to boot). You don't even need the CB name. CreateBlog.com doesn't have the volume of traffic it used to have, and it doesn't even rank that highly in most relevant Google searches anymore. The thing is, no one ever wants to put the legwork in to make a new site. Some other dude (fixtatik, I think) announced he was going to make another last winter or fall, and that never came to fruition. Whether that's due to laziness or the discovery that making a CB clone just might be a bad idea is unknown. |
