i would probably catch this on dvd ('cause i personally believe you can't hate something unless you've actually seen it), but i won't support it in the box office. i am slightly offended that they would preferebly cast caucasians over "other ethnicities". the claim was that the actors were hired based on pure talent and acting ability, but you're telling me they can't find a decent asian aang/zuko/uncle iroh? inuit katara/sokka?
admittedly, at first, i didn't think it was a big deal (even jackson rathbone tried to fit his role for sokka more by hoping for a tan and tying his hair up), but now i feel it's not far off from being just as bad as those old films in which a caucasian actor plays blackfaced or tanned for a role made for "other ethnicities". and don't even get me started on dev patel as zuko. seriously, even zuko's voice actor (dante basco, starred as rufio in hook) would've made a better zuko. and wtf is up with that kid's pussface the whole time. aang in the animated version is practically always smiling. the visual casting in this movie is horrendous, and apparently reviews state that's not even its main problem. |
