i think one of my biggest pet peeves is people who don't seem to be interested in anything. you ask them what they are interested in and they can't even hardly give an answer, or they can only think of one or two things. why are people so uninteresting? do you feel you are an interested person?

^ yah, i can see your viewpoint, and in hindsight i see why my comment seems a bit irrational. however, i think it just comes down to what your spectrum of like vs love vs dislike vs hate is. for example, it is rare for me to find music i greatly dislike, but i know they exist out there. however, i cannot name from the top of my head some type of music i hate. there are songs that appeal to me less than others, but i wouldn't consider them songs i dislike. it is also rare for me to love a song. songs i love, i never take out of "collection", and this category probably holds less than 20 songs for me. so the majority of the music i listen to fall under my "like" category. therefore the easy answer for me is to just say i like anything. i edited my original post saying that i admit sometimes this is just a way for me to tell someone i'm not interested in holding a longer conversation, but i find myself doing that to practically everyone who asks.
the majority of people who ask me that question don't really care to know that i "like" so and so, but that i also listen to so and so, and that i keep so and so on replay everyday. i personally wouldn't care either (about their answers), unless i am already pretty close with the individual/s. but then by that time, it is safe to assume i already have an idea of the music they love vs what they just "listen to". usually when people ask that type of question, it's more of an ice breaker, and i'm just one of those folks who don't like to get into deep(er) conversation with people whom i feel don't really want to. so to reiterate my thought, i hate "ice breaker" questions, especially if it comes from someone whom i feel is not ready to have an actual conversation. more often than not, i never talk to people who ask me those questions again (what are your hobbies? what's your favorite color? what kinds of movies do you watch? what games do you play?). my friends and even acquaintainces don't ask me those types of questions, because our conversations would usually flow naturally; one wouldn't need to ask what i like, they would just know through our discussions. but now, we're getting into the subject of speech, which is a little different from OP's rant. while he has a problem with people who like anything or nothing, my problem deals with how people ask the question to get that type of information from someone. oh and, koennen Sie Deutsch auch sprechen? |

Oh, I see your point. Ice breaker questions. Like, 'how do you feel about the weather today?' kind of thing. Haha. I don't go around asking every person I meet what kind of music they listen to. Maybe it's me but I can sometimes guess the kind of music people listen to by their fashion sense, way of talking and all. Since I love music, when I ask that question, it's because I want to get to know the person better. I don't ask my friends what kind of music they listen to ... they're already my friends. My neighbour and I, whenever I'm at his place, music is always on. We're always on youtube, showing each other a new song. If he hadn't posted that video, I'm not sure we'd have been this close at all. Ah well, people see things differently. And, no. I don't speak German AT ALL. The only way I understood that is because I understand a little bit of Dutch. They say German is an official language here but really, English is spoken more than German. Haha. |
