i think one of my biggest pet peeves is people who don't seem to be interested in anything. you ask them what they are interested in and they can't even hardly give an answer, or they can only think of one or two things. why are people so uninteresting? do you feel you are an interested person?

I'm not sure what turns me off more: people who aren't into anything, or people who claim to be interested in everything. As for the latter, I'm talking specifically of people who say things like, "I like all music" when you ask what music they like. All that says to me is that you don't give a shit about music. I'm not asking you "What is the only music you will listen to?", I'm asking you what your favorite music is. Gah.

But yeah, I agree with you. Similarly, I'm turned off by people listing things like "drinking, hanging w/ friends," and so forth on their Facebook page. I dunno, I always think it's uncouth to add "drinking" to your list of hobbies. I mean, sure, I like to drink to, but...I don't call it a "hobby". And hanging with friends? Yeah, 95% of people like to that, but what do you and your friends like to do?

But your last question is most interesting, probably because since my second or third year of college I've had a fear that I'm a dullard and not very interesting. I think being boring is one of my biggest fears, to be honest.

yeah i think i agree with your first point. also because if they say they listen to everything, then you will say "oh so you listen to *insert genre here*?" and they say no i don't really listen to that much.

ahahahaha yes hanging out with friends is an example i was going to give a what people typically say. drinking and smoking weed are typical responses. drinking isn't a legit hobby to me unless they are the types who go wine tasting or drive 3 hours away to purchase some locally made beer. that's the kind of thing you have to do for alcohol to be a real interest.

i don't think you are boring or will be boring. not that i know your life that much but i think how people post on a forum can be a pretty good indicator of how boring or not boring they are. it's not like 90% of yours posts are from the "what's the weather like?" thread.

you read books so that's also a good indicator to me of how boring a person is. i am suspicious sometimes of people who don't read books. if someone likes to read then that usually seems like a good indicator that they must have interests to find books about in the first place.

i was pretty into the word indicator in this post.

That's another thing: I always shudder when people write something like "I don't read much" under the Favorite Books category on their Facebook profile, especially when it's a friend of mine from college (or that is in college). You're in college, but you don't like to read...? Okay, maybe I can understand that. To each his own. But you're actually comfortable enough with that to admit publicly that you don't read? So you're in college and you think it's okay to never crack open a book unless you have to? Maybe I'm being pretentious, but I think it really says something about our culture that a good number of people -- maybe not a majority, but a fair number of people -- readily admit to not reading anything at all, not even trashy pulp fiction novels like Twilight or whatever. I'm disappointed that books are so often dismissed by people my age and younger.

(I'm also a bit skeptical of people in college who go absolutely ape-shit over the Harry Potter novels, but I can understand it holds a lot of nostalgia for people my age; plus they're decent enough books and at least people are reading them.)

I agree on this and the music point. I don't see how your favorite music genre could be 'all sort of music'. Most of the time, it's a lie. Ask them if they like a particular artist (Marilyn Manson, Cradle of Filth) and most of them answer : I don't like that kind of music. I don't know but it's really confusing and annoying.
And I'm a little irritated by people who don't like to read. The only people in my entourage that read are my fiancé and my sister. I could live in a library.

Now what's worse : I study FASHION DESIGNING and it's obvious that as an aspiring FASHION DESIGNER, fashion magazines, fashion blogs, fashion shows should be your bible. Fashion becomes your world. It's more than 'a course' (if I can say that in English), it becomes a passion. Well, I've got a friend, who HATES all of that but wants to be a fashion designer. She doesn't know famous designers except the idiot Karl L. It annoys me SO much. How can you hate fashion but want to be a fashion designer? I'm pretty much she's going to end up a seamstress.

>< *sigh*

I can't say that I'm annoyed by this, but I've never understood how some people dislike to read. There must be at least author or genre that they can enjoy; they just haven't found it yet. I love to read, and I love bookstores and libraries as well. Sandra, you should take me to places like those where you live. :D You don't live in France, right? I'm from New York. If you're ever here, let's hit up the New York Public Library and BEAUTIFUL Barnes & Noble on the Upper East Side--it's huge and pretty and gah, love it.

No, I live in Belgium. It's next to France, the Netherlands and Germany. And our official languages are french, dutch and german. Haha. It's like this very very tiny country BUT Brussels (the capital) is actually the capital of the European union and the headquaters of NATO. HAHA. But still people don't really know the country. Anyhoo, I'd love to come to NY. It's actually my dream city. Almost certain I'll be there summer time, next year. Can't waiiiiiiiiit. You're allowed to take me anywhere and everywhere. Just to tell you how I love NY, I bought a book yesterday called 'Harlem heritage'. OK. It is more about African american history in Harlem but still.

I have a friend who lives there; he was maybe going to host me if I had gone to France last summer. (I kind of feel like writing in French so that I can practice it; would you be okay with that? You could talk in English and myself in French; bilingual conversation. laugh.gif) Je n'ai pas su que le Belgique est comme ça. Je sais que vous aimez New York car vous avez écrit que votre petit ami n'aime pas cette ville. >:( Chouette! Nous nous amuserons très bien l'année prochaine.

I ran that through Google Translate and it appears to be all correct, but please fix my errors if there are any. Par exemple (lapsing into French/English here...Franglish?), should I say "sue" because I'm a girl? My teachers and university professors have taught me different things about how you're supposed to write masculine vs. feminine forms, et maintenant je ne sais pas ce qui (lequel?) est correct. Thank you!

Also, I was unlazy enough to get the accents from Google Translate; normally I just forgot the accents because I don't know the ALT codes and I don't have a French keyboard.

ça ne me dérange pas si tu veux parler en français. Tu peux me tutoyer (I'm only 21, so you can use 'tu' instead of 'vous'. 'Vous' makes me realllly uncomfortable. haha)

There's no particular time you thought Belgium wasn't like that. You've ALWAYS thought Belgium wasn't like that hence 'imparfait'. Hope I'm clear. Haha. Don't want to confuse you more.
Also, there is NEVER a feminin when you conjugate a verbe with 'avoir' when the object isn't in front of the verbe. HAHA. So freaking weird. 'Je n'ai pas su'. 'La pomme, c'est moi qui l'ai mangée. HAHA. Hope French isn't too confusing.

Other than that, BRAVO !
