I haven't had this issue before and I can't seem to find a fix.
My background looks great in FF and Safari but is not centered and way off (to the right) in IE. I tried adding the _margin left attribute to the background section but that didn't help. You'll have to scrolldown to where the shows are and you'll see what I mean. I have a div covering the top half. The band's multi-genre sound is an eclectic mix of rock, blues, folk and country.

Melodime (Bradley Rhodes, Rachel Beauregard and brothers Sam and Tyler Duis) is an award winning band from Northern VA. Introduced by a mutual friend, the foursome began jamming together in the fall of 2005. Since, they have gained merited attention winning Washington DC’s acclaimed battle of the bands and having their hit Sweet Contentment played on two episodes of Fox TV’s So You Think You Can Dance.

The band recently self-produced and released their first major album, Memories in the Form of Sound. They continue to receive rave reviews by fans and critics alike; The Washington Post praises their music as “sleekly contemporary but suitable for easy-listening venues.”

Melodime is currently performing across VA and DC with plans to tour the East Coast later this year.

Live!
Who: Melodime When: 7:30 p.m. tomorrow Where: Royal Lake Park, Fairfax County
Thursday, June 11, 2009

Local music fans who enjoy a hometown success story and who haven't checked out Northern Virginia's Melodime might want to see the band tomorrow night at Royal Lake Park. Who knows how long it will be before the group's momentum carries its musicians to bigger things than playing free outdoor shows in their own back yard?

Not that critical praise, respectable record sales and an expanding fan base would be enough to lure Melodime from home. After all, the group's debut album, "Memories in the Form of Sound," features a song called "NoVa Love" and another with lyrics extolling the musical inspiration the band members get from making "sweet Virginia" their base. But when a band this good starts attracting attention, it doesn't pay for those who want to say, "I saw them way back when," to procrastinate.

"There was a time when we were seriously considering moving," said Melodime's main songwriter, singer and guitarist Bradley Rhodes, who grew up in Vienna and graduated from Oakton High School. Rhodes said the band had considered relocating to Nashville but scrapped that plan when things began to fall into place locally.

Staying close to home is fine with him, Rhodes said. "I feel like D.C is great place for bands to grow. I really like the area and the opportunities we could have here. Things are really starting to pick up at this point," he said, noting Melodime's busy concert schedule. "We are seeing the fruits of our labors."

The group, made up of keyboardist Sam Duis, drummer Tyler Duis, bassist Nate Thomas, violinist Katie Shanta and part-time vocalist Rachel Beauregard, mixes a refreshing musical cocktail from rock, country, blues and folk influences. Melodime got its start in 2005 and released its first CD last year. The band's song "Sweet Contentment" was featured on the Fox network's show "So You Think You Can Dance" last summer.

Melodime's appearance at Royal Lake Park comes during the second week of the Fairfax County Park Authority's Braddock Nights concert series, which will continue through the summer with performances on Fridays at Royal Lake in Fairfax and Lake Accotink Park in Springfield and Sundays at Ossian Hall Park in Annandale.

-- C. Plucked from the Northern Virginia quartet's new album, songs such as "Through the Miles" might suggest that Rhodes and fellow singer Rachel Beauregard front a jazz-folk combo, sleekly contemporary but suitable for easy-listening venues.

Yet "Memories in the Form of Sound" often expands on its gentler passages, from the hard rock of "The Orphan Song" to the gospel of "When I'm 63."

The latter is more characteristic of the band, which draws heavily from traditional African American styles. "I don't classify as a Southerner," cautions Rhodes in "Orange People," and the group offers two versions of "NoVa Love," a song that puts its origins right in the title. Still, Southern-rooted styles are integral to Melodime, which owes something to Charlottesville's Dave Matthews Band and more to Memphis, Nashville and New Orleans. With their New Agey lyrics and intricate production, tunes such as "Twisted Fairytale" are up-to-date. But there's a lot of musical history in them, too.

-- Mark Jenkins

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/01/AR2009010100797.html

ON TAP
CD Reviews - A Look at New Music
The area and beyond
Melodime
Memories in the Form of Sound

Area shows: Frequent, check their site for updates

Ambitious folk-tinged rock from D.C. Rootsy, with a lot of interesting layers. This first full-length effort is impressive, with harmonies and harmonicas keeping a listener on his toes. Some tracks remind one of Blues Traveler, but this quartet is their own beast, and when all cylinders fire, it’s a fine result. A nice change of pace from typical recycled shoe-gazing tripe out there.

http://www.ontaponline.com/view_article.php?article_id=11444>

A night at the 9:30 club
Traci J. Brooks
Saturday, March 28, 2009
8:32 p.m.
Melodime

Americana meets overdrive in Melodime, a four-piece band (if the tambourine counts as an instrument) from Northern Virginia. The 9:30 club is nowhere near full as they take the stage, but those that are there have no problem getting into the first of three bands opening for Honor By August at their CD release show.

Of course, the tambourine gets old pretty fast. But their driving, riff-heavy guitars and steady drums keep the music energetic, and the lead singer’s hearty vocals don’t falter, even when competing with the female background vocalist’s equally powerful harmonies. When Rachel Beauregard finally does get a chance to let loose, Melodime’s sound rips into a surprisingly loud, bluesy sound that has a shot at impressing even the most cynical of critics. Their cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Give Me One Reason” ended their set – clearly, there ain’t no more to say.

And though their music is technically sound and their performance is sleek and well-rehearsed, Melodime is not a band one listens to for the relaxing “me” time. It’s not that they’re not good – they just change their sound every other song so it feels a bit like audio whiplash. They do rock, blues and folk all equally well, but eventually it just seems selfish. There are other bands out there, kids, which could use some of your polish. Share a little, and the D.C. music scene will thank you.

http://sceneblog.theeagleonline.com/2009/03/31/a-night-at-the-930-club/more-130

Every Freakin' Friday Band: Melodime
Submitted by amanda.svec on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 18:27
in Broadside Entertainment

Seeing Melodime, a local alternative rock band, gave me the feeling of being in a smoky bar in the south, like the kind from The Blues Brothers movies.

This four-piece ensemble from the Washington, D.C. area is a funk, soul, folk, blues, pop-rock tidal wave that rocks as hard as any seasoned club-band, but comes off as a casual garage band.

Their set, mostly consisting of up-tempo blues and soul tunes, was rather energetic, even if the band members themselves were not.

Many of their original tunes were definitely funky and toe-tap worthy, but mostly all sounded the same.

Male lead singer Bradley Rhodes gave a throaty vocal performance, harnessing a soulful sound which worked in all of the songs except those with a slower tempo. As soon as female lead Rachel Beauregard opened her mouth though, I, like most of the audience, was taken aback by her big and soulful voice.

Both singers displayed good voices for their chosen genre and unlike most bands with male and female leads, their voices worked really well together.

The set was delicately sprinkled with soulful covers of The Beatles “All You Need Is Love,” Billy Joel’s “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me,” Ben Harper’s “Steal My Kisses,” and a flawless cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Give Me One Reason,” familiar tunes which the audience didn’t hesitate in lending a voice.

They even surprised us with a very pleasant rendition of the classic “My Girl” by The Temptations which, to the band’s credit, made me fall back in love with the song. Again, I think it was the spice of the great covers that really saved the performance. Overall, Melodime is just that—mellow and fun. Nothing too crazy.

Their album, Memories in the Form of Sound, is available on iTunes and would probably be a great album for a party or road trip—which seems to be a consistent theme of Every Freakin’ Friday bands.

Overall, it was a real fun show and if you missed it, you can catch Melodime back here at George Mason University in the Johnson Center this Thursday playing a benefit show for Relay for Life with The Independent.

http://www.connect2mason.com/content/every-freakin-friday-band-melodime

Melodime at Jammin’ Java

Last night I went to Jammin’ Java in Vienna with Snot Season for a project she had to do for her History of Rock and Roll class. Jammin’ Java, we decided, is the ideal hang-out for the poser suburban hipster and I’m at least two of those things. Playing last night were Green River Ordinance from Texas and Melodime from right here in Virginia.

Both were pretty good. Snot and I agreed that G.R.O. had a very Fray-like tone to them. They exemplified that “nice guy rock” that had several girls whoo-ing in the audience. For the $10 cover charge, I was content with just listening to them, but then Melodime got on stage and quickly made clear who the main act was. Their drummer, for one, was really good, in my opinion and their attitude was fun, witty, and lively. The music defied labeling…it’s definitely country/bluegrass influenced, but it has some indie rock elements in it. We had to leave before they were done, but they were serious business…I really liked them.

Plus the female singer, Rachel Beauregard….so cute. Really really really cute.

http://philthepill.wordpress.com/2009/03/08/melodime/

COPY & PASTE

!-Start Block to Shift Comments To Center-! {!-Change the top px value as needed.
