Do you ever do it? Like maybe there's something you need to do, but for some reason you're too scared or lazy or whatever so you talk yourself out of doing it which then leads to missed opportunities, closed doors, etc.
I got an in-person interview for the hospital job I really want. It'll be a great resume booster, awesome experience, etc. Except I'm so nervous, I'm psyching myself out and I've even considered sending an "I'm sick, can't come to the interview" email. There is a good chance that my nerves will overcome my reason and I'm not gonna go to the stupid interview, not gonna get the job, not gonna get to med school, not gonna be a doctor. T_T :( |

I hope you go the interview, though. It's not going to make or break your future. It will be a nice boost if you get the opportunity, but it isn't going to be the deciding factor of your life. Once you get there and start talking with whomever you're going to be talking to you will probably be surprised at just how easy it goes. Once you're done, you will and should feel proud of yourself for going.
I have anxiety (it took me a long time to be able to admit that to people), so I go through this a lot. I don't just freak out about big things either, which I think makes it a little more difficult for people to understand me. The worse thing is avoidance, and the best thing is gaining control. The more I struggle with the things that cause me anxiety, the worse my anxiety becomes... which I think is pretty much where you are. You're nervous about an interview but since you're struggling with it you start to have anxiety about things that don't really have anything to do with the interview itself. For me, gaining control can be a tricky thing because we're never truly in full control of our environment or even our feelings. We can't necessarily control our emotions over certain things but we're always in control of our behavior in certain situations. Usually when someone starts saying "what if..." it just means that they are afraid, but to get through it they have to realize that they are afraid and confront that fear. If you're just not sure how you're going to react in the environment of this interview the best thing you can do is prepare so that you can control your behavior... then instead of having anxiety of "what if I say this" or "what if I do that?" you will know what your behavior is going to be. Sorry I started rambling, lol. |
