I know there's already a thread on this, but I thought it'd be appropriate to create a new one in the Movies & TV forum.
It's set to be released everywhere on December 11, 2009!! Official trailer: The first 5 minutes of the movie: |

I'll see it sometime.
The controversy is annoying thought. A friend of mine actually made a good argument about it: "Good lord, this is ridiculous. The reason the prince, and many other side characters aren't black is because its a *voodoo themed movie* To be more precise, its themed after *Louisiana Voodoo*. Louisiana Voodoo is characterized by a mixture of African, French, Spanish, and Creole cultures. And hey gasp, *the prince is accurate to that description... Also, Lumiere isn't gay. One of the most controversial jokes made in Beauty and the Beast is the scene of him messing around with the feather duster behind a curtain. If anything, his character is modeled vividly and unsparingly after the French paramour, often depicted in French musicals, which hey, Beauty and the Beast is." |
