I designed a homecoming flyer for my school this year and I would just like some feedback before every student receives one in their hands.

Our Activities director wanted a club type feel for the flyers and something retro but young and hip

looks overdone with too much stuff to me. i don't think that splattery stuff in the back adds anything. the shapes with your date and cost information look randomly slapped on there. i don't think it's necessary they have a rainbow gradient looking thing as a background for those. it's making them not feel like part of the whole poster. but i'm biased becuase i hate rainbow gradient stuff that reminds me of the background of a cheesy powerpoint presentation.

i would be wary of packing a retro design full of overlapped layers with tons of textures and gradients, transparency, ect ect because you have to think what were "retro" designers working with. the printing and layer capability was so much different. but i guess it depends on how much you want it to feel "retro". the font is the only thing bringing any retro feel to this for me at the moment.

i like the retro font and the background, just not the over abundance of textures. i think the colors could work a lot better too. if you just take green as an example you have a nice green for the retro word, but then it's clashing with those green stripes in the rainbow pattern shape, and then you used a different green for the word October. each of those feels like part of something separate. the rainbow things just throw off any change of having a unified color scheme if you ask me.
