Never use twitter, facebook, friendster, ...., social media again. Last June, Jerry started an online group for people who are addicted to social media. SMAA or Social Media Addicts Association with their project StopWritingOnMyWall. If you recognize yourself in this, maybe you can join or at least sign his online petition.

(@emberfly thanks for the tip, I hadn't seen this forum wacko.gif )

Viral marketing is a provision of 'something' that gets passed on - because it's whatever - which advertises your product or service at the same time. It's important that the ratio of 'useful/fun' to advertising isn't too far off kilter or people won't pass it on.

Have you ever seen a promotion of a product, with didn't had the intention of creating some kind of awareness? Not mentioning the name of the brand?

Another thing, the fact that advertising isn’t a topic which fits into you interests, it doesn’t mean that you have to get snarky. There are a lot of discussions going on “on the internet“ about the concept behind this viral. Maybe because those discussions are between people who have already experience in those particular branches, there is more interesting stuff to read and other approaches talked about.

A last point, ever heard of “WWGW” of “What Would Google DO”? Written by Jeff Jarvis, http://www.buzzmachine.com/what-would-google-do/ .

Its about a book that captures the massive changes the internet is effecting in our culture, in marketing, and in advertising.

Maybe after reading this you can have a bit more understanding about creativity.
