I'm driving up to Smith College next week with some of my family and we've decided to stop in NYC for a day. It will be a Sunday so I don't know if many tourist attractions will be open. We don't plan on spending tons of money (minus any food). We just want to walk around and see the city. What are some places to stop at?

go on When I bought my map from a gas station attendant, he was seated inside the building, behind a window with thick metal bars, and near a door with the same ornamentation. He didn't really speak English, which is good because we could barely hear each other through the glass anyway; a series of complicated gestures on my part communicated the idea that I wanted a map of the city, for which he happily charged me $6. Shortly thereafter, I managed to find a working pay phone in an all-night diner so I could call someone and ask for directions. But yeah, I got to walk and drive around a good chunk of Jamaica. Nice place. |
