500 Days of Summer Options

I'm probably going to watch it sometime this week. Anyone else seen it/looking forward to it?

I saw it at a really cool little theater in Albany, NY, last weekend. It wasn't bad. I thought some parts were pretty witty, and even though it was a pretty stereotypical story, it was entertaining and made me laugh at several parts. It has a very subtle sense of humor about it that I enjoyed. I think my girlfriend was even embarrassed at how much I laughed at certain parts. The humor kind of reminded me of that of Adventureland: subtle and even kind of nerdy, but good.

That said, there were a few things I didn't really like that much about it:

1. It's told in a non-linear fashion. I really like when writers tell stories non-linearly -- if it plays into the story somehow. But in (500) Days of Summer, it seemed more gimmicky than necessary -- like the writers knew the story was fairly typical and felt a need to "spice it up a bit".
2. It has a weird voice-over narration in some parts that doesn't add anything to the story. Moreover, it's not clear who the narrator is, and omniscient narrators don't usually work well in movies. Plus the narrator is only around for a select few parts of the film, so when he does talk, the effect is jarring, since it pulls you out of the story.

I didn't expect this movie to make me laugh so much. I guess I was expecting something a little more serious, but I still enjoyed it. I can't decide if I like the narrator or not. I thought he was kind of unnecessary but at the same time, I felt he gave it a certain effect.

I loved it. I loved it so so much. The Enchanted-esque scene made me so incredibly happy (I wish my life was like that, with people singing and dancing all of a sudden on the streets :D). I do have to agree about the whole non-linear thing though; it was a little bit confusing at first, having to remember what actually happened first and what parts of the movie occurred after the break-up.

Yeah, it was a LOT funnier than I expected! It was ten billion times better than that shit of a movie Funny People I watched a couple of days ago, that's for sure.

I can't decide if I like the narrator or not. I thought he was kind of unnecessary but at the same time, I felt he gave it a certain effect.

I tried to keep Michael's criticism in mind while I was watching the movie, but I honestly did not notice the narrating so much except for at the beginning... which I guess means it didn't bug me haha.
