My take on the duplicate accounts. Is that they're more trouble than their worth. It'd work if it was treated to a case-by-case basis. However, who has time to do that, if someone is making a new account each day. The majority, as Rebecca did point out was that the people that are using duplicate accounts are either to a) anonymously berate others, or b) spam anonymously.
I'm with Kevin about the username thing, I had mind changed, and changed it to something I liked at the time, and was over with a week later, though, I did wait for 6 months before I changed it to its current. For the user to be able to change their username when they want to by making another account should be fine, if the other account is disabled. It get's more troublesome to the admins, and it has glitches with the cb profiles when admins are changing people's usernames. I'm kind of on the fence on this issue, because I've used duplicate accounts for both reasons, one to anonymously voice my opinions about the site in feedback. And also to spam anonymously. But if better moderation of these duplicate accounts are taken, such as someone requests to an admin before one is made, then the admin accepts the request, dupes the current account and lets the user use their dupe, I wouldn't see the problem. I don't feel the same way if you let one user have full rights on their 20 different accounts though. One at a time please. |
