It's usually used for making logos and images for print. (Why? Because vectors don't use pixels so they can be resized without having the quality ruined.) How difficult Illustrator is for you kinda depends on how well you are with the pen tool in Photoshop. Illustrator is like the Photoshop pen tool intensified. Of course this is just from my very little experience, it's a painful program to get started with but you get used to it I guess. I felt the same way when I used Photoshop for the first time. Anyways back on topic. It's really good for a first try. I want to rape it.
