alright, trying to change these dock icons is driving me insane. i have no clue why when i download the icon images they don't work. i can add any other picture on my computer as an icon, EXCEPT, the ones i've downloaded (from deviantart) that are specifically for icons. i've been messing around with it for like 45 minutes and the only thing i can figure out is that i think it somehow has to do with the images transparent backgrounds. here's what i notice when i open these two images side by side in my info, it seems to read one and not the other
 the one on the left will let me set it as an icon, the one on the right won't. so i don't know. if i open it up in "get info" and it won't show the actual picture in the top left then i know it won't work as an icon, but i don't know what exactly is making it not work. the one on the left has no transparency and while the one on the right has a transparent background. |

^exactly. different formats seem to work, i can't find just one specific thing that is working man i'm reading this QUOTE 2. The icons are missing, I just see generic documents! Our .ZIP archives are created with the BOMArchiveHelper built into Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.4 (Panther and Tiger). If you are using an older version of Mac OS X, you will need to decompress them using Stuffit Expander version 9.0 or later. Prior versions do not support Apple's custom ZIP format that handles Mac resource forks. Users running Mac OS X 10.3 or later may use Stuffit Expander 9.0 or later, or the built in BOMArchiveHelper. Please note that starting with Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, Apple no longer includes Stuffit Expander with the operating system (although it may still be downloaded for free). New icon sets are posted in ZIP format. Older icon sets may still be in .SIT or .SIT.HQX format, for which you will need to download Stuffit Expander. If you are using Stuffit Expander and are seeing blank document icons, you probably have an old version. If you have followed the recommendations above and are still having trouble viewing Mac icons on your Mac, please send us an email through the 'contact' link at the bottom of the page. maybe i have an older version of stuffit expander. although i don't really get what stuffit expander is if it's not an actual application. when i search in finder nothing comes up, but it has to be there or how else am i selecting it to open all my other shit? shit's confusing. all for some damn icons |
