i currently use filezilla & all of a sudden it doesnt work for me. it asks me to re-download it. & i did, and then when i wanted to use it again, it told me the same thing & i dont want to re-download it everytime i want to use it. so which one would be better? core ftp or smartftp?

I'd say FireFTP or fix your Filezilla bug (it's always been my favourite). Try a completely fresh install of FZ, that ought to fix it.
