I'm thinking about getting one this weekend (two actually, because it'd be a pair) and I need some insight. Would you or do you have a tattoo? If so where and why'd you get it? Did it hurt like hell?

I got one in September of 2008. It's the letters APLV which are the first initials of my immediate family, and it runs down my left side (ribs). I wouldn't say that it hurt terribly, it just stung here and there, kind of like a scrape or a burning feeling.

Before getting it done, my tattoo artist asked me if I heard anything about getting tattoos on the ribs before, I hadn't, and he just laughed and said he would tell me after. After he said that it's one of the most painful places to get a tattoo and if you can stand that then you're pretty much set for any others. So, I would definitely get another in the future.

What were you thinking of getting done? And where?

Wings on my ankles, right above the ankle bone. But I saw something about walking a lot after getting one done there and irritation and I'm going to be getting it in NYC where I do nothing but walk, so now I'm not so sure.

That sounds really cool... I've heard that from constantly being on our feet, those kinds of tattoos can fade or distort easily. I can't really tell you how to take care of it in the healing process because all tattoo artists will tell you different things. But, if you listen to their directions and take good care of it during the healing process, don't scratch or pick at scabs, and apply a high SPF sunblock when it's exposed (one of the main causes for tattoo fading is from the sun) you should be golden.
