Notebook effect help

I know it is called layer mask, I can do it with simple paper brush/texture. I don't know how to make it with notebook texture, like this:

Filling it with color didn't worked and the picture wasn't getting in the mask. (Like filling the spirals of the notebook won't work.) What should I do?

Oh, well what you can try is making a new document with a black background. Then, add your image and move it to the left or wherever you want it. Next, paste your notebook image and resize/rotate it if you need to. Now, just set the notebook image layer's Blending Mode to multiply, color burn, linear burn, or darken - which ever works for you. That seemed to work for me.
