why are people so fixated on the death of a celebrity? thousands upon thousands of people die each day. I'm skipping all of the "don't make a big deal about it because people die every day..." stuff. It's not because I'm unsympathetic to the everyday man. It's because the everyday man didn't give as much joy, influence so many music artists and practically open the door for every successful pop artist out there today. Michael did though, and I'm personally grateful for that. I'm grateful for the memories of so many Halloweens listening to and watching Thriller. I'm grateful for how many times I had fun dancing to the Off the Wall album. This is humbling, not because it's a "celebrity" or because this is more media fodder. It's humbling because as someone who actually grew up listening to Michael Jackson (and the Jackson 5, for that matter), it makes the world that much smaller. her answer pretty much sums it up. yeah people die everyday but there are not that many people who have influenced as many people as michael jackson or helped (holds the record for most charity i think) as many people. so...seems pretty simple to me why people find it different. more people know em so you know. |
