What happens when you feel like you're family isn't your family anymore? Whether its because of an overall unfamiliarity or a falling out, what do you when you feel so far removed from them, that they no longer are much of a priority?
Is it possible to bond with people who aren't related to you in such a way that they replace the need or want for the family you already have? Discuss. |

This is going to sound awfully cliché, but for me, family is where the heart is. I do not have a lot of family and I certainly don't have a lot of "close" family. I come from generations of religious types and I am not at all religious. While they accept it, there's a huge, unspoken gap that will never be completely comfortable.
I have major emotional intimacy reservations and it's put me in position in life that nurtures solitude. As such, family is my son and I. After that is what I consider peripheral family - my mom, brothers and sisters and the like. My boyfriend is slowly becoming a part of my emotional family, and it is terrifying. |
